Abstract

Since 2014, archaeologists from the University of Regensburg have renewed investigations in the building history of the upper agora, the so-called State Agora, of ancient Ephesos. The project, realized in close cooperation between the Austrian Archaeological Institute and scholars of architectural history from the Technical University at Berlin, aims to fill in the blank spaces left by former excavations. In this way, it will be possible to propose a more precise and articulated chronology for the development of this public space and its architectural configuration, which also assists in providing a better understand of the integration of the upper agora into the overall urban fabric and to gain new insights regarding its functions.
