Abstract

In this talk I present the results of my ongoing research that concentrates on the mithraea, i.e. sanctuaries dedicated to Mithras, in the Roman province of Dalmatia. Drawing on recent scholarship, I reconsider the overall number of the mithraea in Dalmatia, and offer some further insights regarding the question of their typology within the wider framework of the Roman Empire. The final part of this lecture is dedicated to the spatial and topographical contextualization of Mithras’ sanctuaries in Dalmatia.
