Abstract
The late antique megalopolis of Constantinople was well provided with a new water supply system including the longest water supply lines and major covered cisterns and reservoirs. This paper focuses on the medieval city and aims to outline how the varying fortunes of the water infrastructure mirror the long-term urban history of the city and provide insights into changing patterns of patronage and munificence.
The lecture will be followed by a wine reception.
