Abstract
This lecture will focus on the Nabatean city of Hegra, jewel of the desert of the Arabian Peninsula and the southernmost city of the Nabatean kingdom. Fifteen years of Saudi-French excavations have highlighted the archaeological and epigraphic wealth of the funerary and urban contexts of the city, while beginning to unravel the role of the city on a local, regional scale within the Arabian Peninsula and beyond. This talk will be the opportunity to discuss the new 2024-2028 research programme and contextualise Hegra within the wider region.
