Medieval Badges: Visual Communication and Community Formation

Abstract

I will give a general introduction to medieval badges, framed by some words about the disciplinary training that underlies my interdisciplinary approach (my training is in literary studies, with foci in philology, gender studies, poetics, and literary history) and by the open questions raised by the apparent persistence in the creation and use of miniature objects over many centuries in some regions of Europe.
