In 2018, archaeological excavations will begin on the Forum of Caesar in Rome. The area of investigation is seated in the north – eastern part of the forum and it is likely that the fieldwork will provide detailed insight into the cultural and urban development of Rome from the 12th century BC till the middle age and not least uncover the remaining part of the Forum of Caesar itself.
The project, which is financed by the Carlsberg Foundation, is in collaboration between the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali and the Danish Institute in Rome. The Danish part of the project is anchored at UrbNet, University of Aarhus where the management team consists of Jan Kindberg Jacobsen, Rubina Raja and Sine Grove Saxkjær.
The presentation will address the overall research perspectives of the coming excavations as well as research topics of specific interest in regard to pre-Roman phase of the area.
