Abstract: In this short lecture, I shall try to demonstrate some main characteristics of Ribe’s archaeology within its whole period from the early 18^th century and up towards the present. At the end, this will take the form of a walk down memory lane in a somewhat personal way, but that aside, I also hope to be able to point out some main characteristics which are to be discussed within the following three main points:

1.     Inspiration from home and abroad. Methods, skills and techniques which were introduced and used – or not

2.     Questions raised and solved – and why not

3.     Down memory lane
