Spatiality of ancient world trade

Fifth in a lecture series by Visiting professor Eivind Heldaas Seland (University of Bergen).

Abstract

In the final lecture I draw on insights from historical geography in order to bring together the spatial, material and social dimensions of ancient long-distance trade. On basis of cases discussed during the other lectures I discuss how networks in space, networks in time and networks of meaning can be integrated in order to better appreciate the historical space created by ancient world trade.

The lecture will be followed by a reception.
