Since 1974 northern Cyprus has been occupied by Turkey, and in the absence of legal authorities the archaeological sites in this region have become inaccessible to archaeologists. The location of the city of Soli suggests that it was the main export site of Cypriot copper, a trade which was pivotal to the explosion of the Mediterranean and Near Eastern Late Bronze Age cultures. Based on the survey of the hinterland of Soli and one of its greatest copper resources at Skouriotissa, I will discuss the evidence for the character of Soli during the Roman period.
