Call for applications: The Danish-German Northwest Quarter Project
The Danish-German Northwest Quarter Project is looking for a number of engaged archaeology students to join the 2016 team.
The project has been running since 2011 and is planned to continue for several years to come. In 2015, the team consisted of 36 people: a mix of students and experts . Furthermore we employ app. 35 workers.
The excavation is an urban excavation focusing on the Northwest Quarter in the Decapolis city of Gerasa, modern Jerash in Jordan. Through the excavation core questions relating to urbanism in the Near East are examined. The excavation is connected to the Danish National Research Foundation’s Centre of Excellence for Urban Network Evolutions. The excavation is a jointly-directed project headed by Professor Rubina Raja (classical archaeology, Aarhus University) and Professor Achim Lichtenberger (classical archaeology, Ruhr-Universität Bochum). The working language on the excavation is English.
We are advertising a number of positions on the excavation team for the upcoming campaign in 2016, which will take place from mid-July until the end of August 2016 (six weeks). We are looking for archaeology students, who have experience either in the field as trench masters or in the registration (both drawing, photography and total registration). Since the number of finds often exceeds 900.000 objects per campaign, and the stratigraphy is complex, we are looking for students with experience and who are willing to learn fast.
We promise an organised work flow and interesting working day, including daily team meetings and weekly evening lectures. In the spring of 2016, we will organise a preparation course for all team members,as well as a team meeting. We will cover travel, visa, accommodation and catering for the duration of the campaign.
If you are interested in becoming part of team please send your application and CV to Rubina Raja (Rubina.Raja@cas.au.dk) no later than 6 December 2015. Interviews will be held 14 December and decisions made shortly thereafter.
