Olympia Bobou is a classical archaeologist specializing in sculpture. She studied first at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and then at the University of Oxford, where she completed her doctorate on statues of children in the Hellenistic period (published in 2015 as Children in the Hellenistic World: Statues and Representation). Before coming to Aarhus, she taught Greek and Roman art at different UK universities, and worked at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and the Museum of Byzantine Culture, Thessaloniki.

In 2017, she came to Aarhus to work under Professor of Classical Archaeology and Centre Director of The Danish National Research Foundation's Center of Excellence for Urban Network Evolutions Rubina Raja on the Palmyra Portrait Project. Starting from July 2020, she will be working on the Circular economy and urban sustainability in Antiquity project, led by Professor Raja. She will be examining primary sources with the aim of revealing economic patterns and the circulation and re-use of materials in Palmyra.
