New publications from the excavations of the Viking-Age ring fortress Borgring, Denmark
Results from the remarkable excavations of Borgring have been published in Journal of Danish Archaeology. Three articles are co-written by UrbNet deputy director professor Søren M. Sindbæk.
In 2014, Danish archaeologists announced that they had found the traces of a large ring fortress from the Viking Age at Borgring, near Køge. From 2016 to 2018, the Borgring Project carried out excavations at the ring fortress. Many thousands of curious guests watched the work from the visitor centre erected at Borgring. The project was carried out by the Museum Southeast Denmark in collaboration with, among others, Aarhus University and the National Museum of Denmark, and supported by A.P. Møllerfondet and Køge Municipality. In addition, many other experts, among them fire investigators from the crime scene section at The National Forensic Services of the Danish Police, participated in investigations of the site.
Now the results of the studies have been analysed and published together as articles in Journal of Danish Archaeology. The results have answered many of the questions raised when the ring fortress was originally discovered, and the articles provide new perspectives on Viking-Age Denmark. In the articles, you can explore the many data that has been brought to light. The articles are available for free here.
