RAC/TRAC 2026 CALL FOR SESSIONS
Call for Session Proposals Open for the 16th Roman Archaeology Conference / 34th Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference.
RAC / TRAC 2026 will be held in Aarhus (Denmark), Thursday 21 May – Saturday 23 May 2026. The pre- and post-conference excursions will take place on 20 and 24 May 2026.
Main venue: Aarhus University
Session proposals are welcome on all aspects of Roman archaeology, broadly interpreted and international in scope. The standard session format accommodates up to six 20-minute papers, alongside an introduction and discussion. However, alternative formats, such as round tables or workshops with shorter presentations and extended discussion, are also possible. If you are considering such a format, please contact the organisers for advice. Proposals are particularly encouraged on current research themes, including new scientific applications in Roman archaeology, the latest approaches to urbanism, the role of networks in cultural and economic exchange, archive archaeology, and theoretical frameworks aimed at decentring and decolonising Roman archaeology. However, submissions on all regional, sub-period, and thematic topics are welcome.
Submissions outlining the theme and its broader significance should include a list of maximum three speakers whom the session organisers intend to invite. The Organising Committee will decide on the session programme in late June, when the Call for Papers will open. Once the CfP closes in the autumn, session organisers will decide final session line-ups. Registration for an Early-Bird option will open in September 2025.
Please note that RAC/TRAC 2026 will be an in-person-only conference, but one which is designed to be inclusive and accessible. Further details on these matters, including provision of bursaries for attendance, will be available soon.
