“We should be prioritising the humanities and the social sciences in a time where the world order is uncertain”
Debate - The Danish Government’s plan to make further budget cuts to the humanities and the social sciences is debated in a recent article by Associate Professor in History at Aarhus University Nina Koefoed in the Danish newspaper Information.
Recently, the Danish Government introduced a plan to economize heavily on the educational programmes within the humanities and social sciences at the universities in Denmark. According to Associate Professor in History at Aarhus University, Nina Koefoed, such a financial prioritising will be devastating not only to the educational programmes themselves, but also to all the research currently being conducted within these fields. After years of continued budget cuts, the limit has been reached.
In her contribution to the debate in the Danish newspaper Information on 17 October, Nina Koefoed gives several good reasons why Denmark should instead prioritize and strengthen the humanities and the social sciences in order to ensure the best possible future for our society and our institutions.
