Social Breakdown and the Introduction of Christianity in Denmark's late Viking Age

How suddenly did Christianity transform worldviews and social relations among the rural populations of late Viking-age Denmark? The project “Samfundsbrud” will gain new knowledge about the societal impact of religious change by using new methodological advances to measure the pace of change in the transition from pre-Christian to Christian burial grounds. The project is funded by the Augustinus Foundation’s “Forskning i Kulturarv” and is conducted in collaboration between Aarhus University, Vesthimmerlands Museum, Nordjyske Museer, Museum Østjylland and Moesgaard.
